DEATH in Paradise fans have called out something VERY strange about residents of Saint Marie ahead of the BBC finale.
The hit BBC drama first aired in October 2011 and since then, there have been 106 episodes across 13 seasons including two Christmas Specials.
In keeping with the title of the show, the body count is as high as the episode one, but die-hard Death in Paradise fans have started to notice something about the inhabitants of Saint Marie when another person is found dead.
Posting on Reddit, one fan of the show asked: “Why doesn’t anyone ever cry?”
They added: “Considering someone is murdered every episode, there’s usually not even a tear squeezed out for victims.
“People are told their daughter/husband/friend has died and the reaction is basically ‘oh no, shame’.”
Their comment prompted a wave of responses, with a fellow fan writing: “I think it has to be assumed that they would cry off camera.
“It’s a bit of a useless mechanic to have characters we’ve just met, cry about losing a loved one when we aren’t familiar with them and can’t empathise.
“On the other hand, IIRC Camille cried hard when Richard was murdered.”
Another added: “That’s just a thing in cozy mysteries. It wouldn’t be cozy if you were thinking, ‘Oh goodness, this is horrible, she lost her husband/brother/son in a shocking, gruesome way and now she’s a suspect in a murder.’
“It’s supposed to be an escape for the viewer. Feeling too much psychological discomfort would ruin that.”
A fellow viewer agreed, writing: “It’s a feature of fair-play whodunits (like Agatha Christie). It’s a puzzle, so crying just distracts from the puzzle.”
But others had a bit more fun than logic to their answers, with one writing: “Most of the victims/suspects are British, we’re not built like that.”
Another joked: “They all immigrated from Midsomer, they’re used to it.”
Meanwhile a fellow viewer added: “The heat on the island dries them up straight away.”
However, there could be tears on Sunday night depending how the season 13 finale ends.
Last week’s penultimate episode saw DI Neville Parker – Ralf Little– say goodbye to all his friends in Saint Marie.
Neville had decided to leave the island to go travelling and hopefully find a new love, just as former love interest Florence revealed she was coming back to the island after being released from witness protection.
Neville and Florence shared a brief reunion on video chat before he headed to board his plane to Dominica, but fans are hoping he doesn’t go through with his plans to leave.
Death in Paradise continues on Sunday, March 24 at 9pm on BBC One.
